NEW BOSS AT FLEETWOOD

Posted on December 20, 2012 in Millwall

The former Scotland international Graham Alexander has said that he feels that Fleetwood town is the great place to start his managerial career. The 41-year-old was recently appointed as the successor for the sacked Micky Mellon. This announcement was made by the club on Thursday at Highbury. He has said that he hopes that he can prove himself and the chairman Andy Pille right in the decision that they have taken. Micky Mellon was responsible for getting Fleetwood town into the football league for the first time in their history, but poor results at the start of the season culminated in his sacking recently.

Fleetwood Town recently lost against Aldershot, who are themselves struggling with form, in the FA Cup. The former Burnley and Preston defender has a wealth of experience of having played in a number of leagues in Britain. He was recently involved in the Premier league with Burnley only a few seasons ago. His first game will be coming up against Southend United, and he will be hoping to improve the position of the club, who are currently in the seventh position going into the match. The team still have an outside chance of getting into the League One automatically, as they remain only a handful of points away from the leaders.

“You have to take every opportunity that comes along and this was definitely worth going for. Hopefully I can prove myself right and the chairman [Andy Pilley] right. I want to be successful. There’s no other way to approach professional football. You have to strive to succeed. The club have been doing that for a few years now and hopefully I can take it forward,” said Alexander after assuming position at the club. He has also managed to bring his former colleague Chris Lucketti to the club as well.
