Posted on August 20, 2021 in Millwall

Former footballer Connor Mclaughlin has said English Premier League side Arsenal have shown that they have a lot of faith in their youngster Emile Smith-Rowe after their latest decision on the player. Not only have theĀ  Gunners have decided to tie down the youngster to a new long-term contract extension, but they have also decided to hand him the number 10 jersey in a bid to convince him that he is such an important player for them and they have him in their plans for the future. Smith-Rowe was a huge summer transfer target for English Premier League club Aston Villa as the Villans tried to prise him with a move away from the Emirates Stadium but Arsenal have won the race to keep him.

The youngster starred for Arsenal last season as he was one of the shining lights in a team that performed largely below expectations. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has always mentioned that he wants the player to have a long-term future at the north London club and following the new deal that they offered him, they have proven to him that they expect a lot from him in the next few years.

Mclaughlin has now revealed that he is delighted to see that Arsenal have now finally started to give more time to young players who have the passion to play for the club instead of the older players who mostly play for the money instead of the success of the club. Mclaughlin also added that Arsenal’s decision to hand the number 10 shirt to Emile Smith-Rowe was a bold move and a huge one too because it shows how much they value him and that it would also make the player commit himself to them.

Arsenal kick off their new Premier League campaign with a fixture against newly-promoted side Brentford on the opening day of the league and they will be looking to start their season on the front foot.
